8th Grade Promotion Requirements

In an effort to encourage high academic standards and college readiness, ERUSD High School students must obtain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 for all four years of high school in order to participate in commencement exercises.

In order for middle school to effectively prepare your sons and daughters for the academic challenges and rigor of high school, STEAM Academy @ Burke, North Park Academy of the Arts, and Rivera Middle School will be implementing similar requirements at the middle school level. Please see below for the new promotion criteria:

Incoming 6th Graders

Students will need to maintain a cumulative (6th, 7th, and 8th grade years combined) GPA of 2.0 or higher.

No more than one U in citizenship for all subjects 2nd semester of 8th grade year only.

The school Principal will make the final determination for promotion to ninth grade based on the student’s overall progress. If the above requirements are met, students will be permitted to participate in the following 8th grade activities: 8th Grade Dance, Knott’s Berry Farm Field Trip, and Promotion Ceremony.

Promotion ceremonies will be held at the individual sites. Students will not be required to purchase gowns for this ceremony. While we want to celebrate those students who have met middle school criteria for promotion, we also want to emphasize the significance of a high school graduation by having students experience the traditional cap and gown ceremony when they complete high school.

If you have any questions regarding the above information, please feel free to contact our school at (562) 801-7570.
