Computer Science Discoveries (CS Discoveries) is an introductory computer science course that empowers students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun.
Curriculum Overview
Unit 1: Problem Solving
Explore the problem-solving process and the different ways humans and computers solve problems.
Unit 2: Web Development
Discover the languages powering the web. Build your own websites in HTML and CSS using Web Lab.
Unit 3: Animations and Games
Learn the powerful constructs underlying programming languages. Build interactive games in JavaScript using Game Lab.

Grading Policy
25% – Projects
25% – Journal
25% – Classwork
25% – Participation
**All students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA in order to be eligible to participate in all end of the year activities, including the 8th grade promotion ceremony.
Citizenship
Students may receive a referral and/or a U (unsatisfactory) on their progress/report card for:- demonstrating inappropriate, disruptive and/or disrespectful behavior in class.
- accumulating 5 or more tardies during the semester.
Any student who receives more than one U for citizenship may be excluded from participating in field trips and/or school activities such as the fall festival, the 7th grade beach field trip and Lancerpalooza.Assignments- There will be no homework assignments.
- Students are responsible for completing all classwork, including absent work.
- Students can complete absent/unfinished/late work, after school, in my classroom.
- It is the student's responsibility to arrange after school make-up time with me.

Descubrimientos de Ciencias de la Computación (CS Discoveries) es una clase de introducción a las ciencias de computación que apoderara alumnos a crear artefactos auténticos y emplear ciencias de computación como uno medio de creatividad, comunicación, resolver problemas y diversión.
Plan de Estudios
Unidad 1: Resolver Problemas
Explorar el proceso de resolver problemas y las formas diferentes que los humanos y computadoras resuelven problemas.
Unidad 2: Desarrollo de Red
Descubre los lenguajes que apoderan la red. Construye tu propio sitio en HTML y CSS usando el Laboratorio de Red.
Unidad 3: Animaciones y Juegos
Aprende las poderosas construcciones subyacentes de los lenguajes de programación. Construye juegos interactivos en JavaScript usando el Laboratorio de Juegos.

Comportamiento
Alumnas/os pueden recibir una U (no satisfactorio) en su reporte de calificaciones por:
- demonstrar un comportamiento inapropiado, disruptivo y/o irrespetuoso durante clase
- acumular 5 o más tardanzas durante el semestre (como es notado en el manual estudiantil)
Cualquier alumna/o que reciba más de una U por su comportamiento puede ser excluido de excursiones y/o actividades escolares como el festival de otoño, la excursión de 7º grado a la playa o “Lancerpalooza”.
Trabajos
- No habrá tareas que completar en casa.
- Alumnos son responsables de completar todo trabajo de clase, incluso cuando faltan.
- Alumnos pueden completar trabajos incompletos, después de clase, en mi salón.
- Es la responsabilidad del alumno hacer arreglos conmigo para completar trabajos.

I'm sure you all know that we won't be seeing each other at school for the next 3 weeks. However, you are still expected to do your work as if we were... think of it like 3 weeks of homeschooling followed by spring break.
Keep in mind:
-I will be posting your assignments, daily, under "Lessons".
-You will be completing the lessons on Code.org the way you usually do at school.
-Make sure you follow directions and attempt everything they ask you to do.
-You can access Code.org lessons on any device, including your cell phone. But, it would be easier to do on a device with a larger screen.
-You can also get the attached 3-week plan of work at the school office.
