Students will read silently and understand Roberto Clemente's biography on their own.

Read around activity. Guided reading. Students will read aloud and instructor will present questions so they can discuss. Open--ended discussions.
 
Thursday: Feb. 23, 2017
Instructor will present students with some open--ended questions.
Students will answer those questions independently--individually.
 
Friday: Feb. 24, 2017
Students will turn in their completed assignments.
Assignments must be neat and use complete sentences.

This week, the students will be exposed to "Narrative nonfiction." Students will understand how writers of narrative nonfiction, such as biographies and histories, describe real people, places, and events.
 
Monday: Jan. 30, 2017
Silent Reading: Students will read on their own pages 306--317. Students will start to understand how autobiographies are written in first-person point of view.
 
Tuesday: Jan. 31, 2017
Guided Reading: Instructor will have students read aloud to the rest of the class. Instructor will pause/ask questions to verify students are truly understanding the author's point of view.
 
Wednesday: Feb. 01, 2017
Instructor will hand out the teacher made questions assignment. Students will work individually. Students will answer the questions to the best of their understanding.
 
Thursday: Feb. 02, 2017
Students will collaborate with each other and go over their answers.
Instructor will call randomly on students to read aloud their answers. Students will explain why the reason why they answered the question in that way/form.
 
Friday: Feb. 03, 2017
Students will be given ample time to complete their assignment. Instructor will insure that the work is turned in fully completed.

Teacher will go over the questions with the students. Instructor will call on students randomly to make sure they have the proper answers for each of the questions handed to them the previous day.

Students will have plenty of time to complete their weekly assignment. Also, they will complete the assignment on page 139.
 
Friday: Dec. 02, 2016
Students will be given time to complete any other missing assignment from other classes. This activity is done with the whole purpose to assist students to improve their grades in other academic areas.

Students will analyze each character and the lesson the writer wants us to learn. Also, we will compare and contrast the story we are reading this week with the story we read last week.

In order to help your child obtain a better grade, I am going to have your child work on Language Arts. At the same time, your child will receive a grade for the assignments they complete  during my class. So  if you think about it, it is a win-win situation for them. They will get credit for both classes. Hopefully your child takes advantage of this opportunity.

This week, students will analyze the author's point of view, summarize, find the main idea and provide supporting details ( textual evidence). Finally, students will analyze a writers report on Greenland Sharks and provide findings written by the author.
