US HISTORY - 8TH GRADE (Period 2) Assignments

Mexican - American War quiz on Friday, April 21.

Manifest Destiny PBL:

 

Paintings due no later than Monday afternoon (final).

Political Cartoons due no later than Tuesday afternoon (final draft).

Museum labels due no later than Monday afternoon (rough draft).

 

Final draft museum labels due Wednesday afternoon.

Students are beginning a group project.  Final products will be either a painting or a photograph and a political cartoon.  For the most part, work will be done in class, with some work being done at home, based on individual group needs.

 

Attached are the sign-off sheet and calendar listing assignments and due dates.

Page 56 of interactive notebook, Cornell notes:

* 2 people (sources) that say Manifest Destiny is "good"

* 2 people (sources) that say Manifest Destiny is "bad"

Include the sources' names, and the names of the websites where sources were found.

Due tomorrow (Friday, 2/17):

 

If you haven't turned in your Lewis and Clark Journal Packets A & B, do so by Friday.

 

Also due is the Corps of Discovery map.

 

Interactive Notebooks due today, Monday, 12-12-16.

 

Final exam on Wednesday, 12/14 and rebounds in class and after school on Thursday, 12/15.

 

Keep working on study guides.  We'll go over questions and answers on Tuesday, 12/13.

Page 40 of interactive notebook:

Students are working on this assignment in class on Monday and Tuesday.  If assignments are not completed by the end of class on Tuesday, the assignment becomes self-assigned homework.

Tomorrow, we will be participating in Philosophical Chairs.  The topic:  Is the Electoral College system outdated and unnecessary?

 

Students must finish annotating, summarizing, and analyzing the two articles on Interactive Notebook pages 36-37 and 38-39 in order to prepare for the debate/discussion.

Be sure to complete all Interactive Notebook assignments for pages 1 - 25.  Don't wait until the last minute to complete assignments.  Remember, your Interactive Notebook is worth 500 points.  If you put-off finishing assignments, you'll earn a low score which will affect your overall grade very badly.  Use your time wisely!

Keep up to date with you Interactive Notebook assignments.  Don't let yourself fall behind.  By now, you should have completed pages 1 - 17.

Chapter 6, section one:  Finish your notes and study your notes to prepare for the quiz.  I will be checking for completed notes tomorrow.

We will be analyzing 4 documents this week in order to answer the question-

After school HISTORY ACADEMY CLINICS run on Mondays and Thursdays in my classroom, 601, from 2:50 to 3:50.  Come get help on assignments, study for quizzes and tests, catch up with interactive notebook assignments, and learn about the geography of the United States.

 

I will be "stamping" completed assignments on Thursday.  Be sure to finalize your Cornell notes on page 5 of your interactive notebook following all 4-steps:  notes, questions, highlighting, and summary/reflection.

 

By Thursday, you should have pages 1-7 completed.

 

Quiz on Friday!!!!!  Focus on using all of your information to answer the essential question, "What happened to the lost colony of Roanoke?"

Finish finalizing your notes from page 5 of your interactive notebook:

This week, students are reading documents, watching video clips, and taking Cornell notes about the Lost Colony of Roanoke.  The "Essential Question" or "Document-Based Question" of the week is: "What happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke?"  By the end of the week, students will use a graphic organizer to establish their own theory and to provide evidence based on the documents and videos they viewed.  There will be no homework, except for student self-assigned homework for all assignments not completed in class.

Make sure that all assignments in your interactive notebook are completed by Friday, September 2nd (pages 1 - 6).

Bring your interactive notebook up to date:

Just the signed page of the syllabus is due Friday.  Keep the other pages for your own information.
