ADVANCED DANCE AUDITION FOR 2019-2020

Auditions for Advanced Dance for the following school year of 2019-2020 will be held afterschool 3:00pm SHARP) on March 7, 2019. Please be prompt. Depending on the amount of students auditioning, it may take up to 5:00 pm.
There will be NO make-ups. The dance routine will be taught and judged on the same day (March 7th). Please wear dance wear/comfortable clothing. Results will be posted on the back office the following day, Friday, March 8th.

DIVAS Dance Show!!

Our next dance show titled, DIVAS, is coming soon!
 
When: February 28, 2019 (Thursday)
Where: NPAA Cafetorium
Time: 6:00pm (Gates open at 5:30pm)
Why: Students will honor a few people in music who have made a significant impact in culture, expertise, and brilliance, through dance.
 
**CALL TIME FOR DANCERS IS 4:30 PM
**Students may stay on campus afterschool with me, Ms. Rico
 

Friday Assembly on November 2, 2018!!

All our fabulous dancers will be dancing in our Halloween Dance Performance assembly. It will start immediately at 8:00 am. That means YOU MUST BE AT SCHOOL AT 7:30 AM!! PLEASE BE ON TIME!! Consider doing your hair and make-up at home.
First hour 6th
Second hour 7th
Third hour 8th
You will attend periods 1 and 6 at the end of the day...you're welcome.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE HALLOWEEN SHOW!!

1) It's next Tuesday evening at 6:pm!
2) Call time for dancers is 4:30. REMEMBER: you may stay after school with Ms. Rico so you don't have to go back and forth. PLEASE bring your own food/snacks/water, should you stay after school.
3)MANDATORY AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSAL ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 29TH, FROM 3:00-4:30PM. DO NOT BE LATE!! We will run the entire show. No costumes. Bring snacks/water, patience, and your fabulous personality.
4) The dance department is happily accepting donations to sell before the show and at intermission, like; individual size bags of chips, candy bars, cupcakes, bags of popcorn, bottled water(plastic), cans of soda, capri suns,and most important, you time!
5) Thank you all so much for helping us make this event enjoyable and everlasting!!

Dance Events for May/June 2018

May 24th: ECHALE¡¡
This is our student choreographed show.
Show time: 6:00pm
Call time: 4:30pm
 
May 25th: school assembly. 
 
Pegate rehearsals: Tues, 3-4 pm.
Magdelena rehearsals: Thurs, 3-4pm
 
June 1st: school assembly for incoming 6th graders. Dances to be determined. 

Welcome to Dance 2018-2019!!

I'm so happy to say that we have many new students taking dance this year, for the first time. Here's a few things you should know:
 
Dancers at NPAA will be learning a variety of dance styles that are not limited to, but include jazz, hip-hop, modern, contemporary, cultural and Broadway, with ballet as their foundation.
 
All dancers in 1st and 4th periods will change in the PE locker rooms, therefore, will need to buy a lock from our school, in the main office. Locks are $5.00.
 
All dancers will wear a plain black t-shirt that fits comfortably. They may also buy a dance t-shirt for $10.00, from me. For the bottom, all dancers have a choice of wearing either black capri/full length leggings/joggers/track pants/sweats. No shorts. Ideally, girls should wear athletic bras, preferably black.
 
Dance shoes are not required. Most of the time dancers will either be barefoot or in socks. I recommend that they have sandals/slippers to protect their feet when walking to and from the locker rooms.
 
Due to our flooring, it would be best if each dancer invest in their own yoga mat.
 
Dance students may bring only water into the dance room.

Halloween Dance Concert 2018!!

Our Halloween Dance Concert is fast approaching, so set your calendars to:
When: 10/30/2018 (Tuesday)
Time: 6:00 pm
Where: NPAA cafetorium
 
Call time for dancers is 4:30 pm. I will be staying on campus for the students who cannot leave school and come back.
 
A variety of costumes will be worn throughout the show. Stay posted for what your child will need. To be announced in just a few days.
 
Our dance department sells beverages and snacks before the concert and during intermission. Therefore, we ALWAYS need parents to volunteer their time and assistance should they be able. The other way parents can help is by donating water, snacks, food...things that are sold at the concert, like, bottled water, individual size chip bags, cookies cupcakes, candy apples, pizza, candy bars, and soda.

Upcoming Dance Events for April 2018!!

* April 12th-NPAA VAPA Showcase, On Broadway! 5:00pm-7:00pm
This is a mandatory show for ours dancers.
* April 14th-ERUSD Health Fair: 9am-10am. Various dances, tbd.
*April 25th- ERUSD VAPA Showcase: 5pm-8:00pm. Dances from advanced dance.
 

Field-trip Fundraiser!!

On March 16, 2018 (Friday), our dance department has an awesome opportunity to raise money for our dance needs AND witness a live taping of America's Got Talent!
We will leave the school at 2:00 pm, and return at approximately at 7:00 pm. Our transportation will be provided by the company, On Camera Audiences, at no cost. Students may bring snacks, and their cell phone, and money for Starbucks! They must dress nice, and will not be allowed to take their backpack. I will lock up all their belongings in my dance room before we leave to the fieldtrip.
We would LOVE to have as many chaperones as possible, It's a fun event you don't want to miss! Please let me know as soon as possible should you want to come along with us. You may bring relatives and friends as well. Email to crico@erusd.org. You may also send a note with your child to let me know to put you on the list.

MANDATORY DANCE REHEARSAL THIS SATURDAY

This Saturday, March 10, 2018, the school we be open, so we are now scheduled for a mandatory rehearsal for our upcoming show, On Broadway!!
 
Rehearsal will began at 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Please be prompt!! Should all go well, we may be finished earlier than 10:30. Please bring water and a snack.
 
This mandatory rehearsal has a 10 point value toward your grade.

Lunch & a show, during both school lunches: March 15th. Student choreographed dances.

Advanced Dance Auditions!!

On February 20th, students who wish to audition for Advanced Dance for the following school year (2018-2019), will come to the cafetorium afterschool until 4:30pm, to learn the choreography.
 
On February 22nd, students will be auditioned from 3-4:30 in the cafetorium. 
 
Results will be posted by the attendance window on Friday, February 23rd.

URGENT POST FOR 2ND PER. DANCE PARENTS/GUARDIANS

Due to the high volume of school buses after school, our bus from the Whittier Center Theatre will pick us up at 3:30pm. We will arrive back on campus at approximately 4:00pm.
